Nobby Heritage Music Festival - 2009 6th - 7th June.

Nobby Heritage Music Festival is a grass roots inclusive festival in the historic village of Nobby on the Darling Downs. Nobby is 30 minutes south of Toowoomba on the New England Hwy & is known for being the place where Arthur Hoey Davis wrote his Dad n Dave stories & also where Sister Elizabeth Kenny pioneered her treatment of poliomyelitis.

The inaugural festival was held on the June long weekend last year 2008, with the small population working hard to provide for the visitors. It was such a success that the Nobby Heritage & Development Assoc have decided to hold it again. Concerts & workshops are being held in 5 venues, the School of Arts hall, the Pepperina Gallery, Rudd’s Pub Barn, & the Dillybag Gunya & the Vintage Museum.

Styles of music include mostly folk, some country & jazz with people encouraged to join in workshops, jam sessions, busking and dancing. There will also be general entertainment including sheep dog trials and markets and a fashion show.

"Nobby is a fantastic town and the five venues are wonderful for performers and audience members and there is so much to do over the weekend. Last year there were lots of people who travelled from cross-country to participate and there is so much opportunity to get involved that everyone can be a musician or performer for the weekend!" (Quoted by one of the performers, Mark Schuster)

The program for the second annual Nobby Heritage Music Festival is being finalised with the community committee busy securing final acts which include belly dancing, gospel singing and a lantern parade. It will be a jam-packed weekend with more than 40 performers with acts including Celtic, country, rock, South American, swing, drumming, line dancing, orchestral and poetry.

The festival is a grassroots event organised by musicians for musicians. There are five venues where solo artists and groups can perform to the public and many opportunities for people to get involved themselves.

Nobby Heritage Music Festival is an initiative of the Nobby community and any funds raised will go towards the Nobby Heritage & Development Association particularly to maintain the School of Arts hall.
